Cavitation bubble luminescence

When a cavitation bubble collapses, the gas trapped within the bubble experiences a strong pressure and temperature increase (up to 15,000 K). As a result, plasma is generated at the last stage of the collapse with emission of photons. We propose in the present project to evaluate the temperature in the center of the bubble with the help of a set of narrow band filters and a digital camera. Several identical bubbles will be generated by a pulsed laser source. A specific image processing will be used to measure the light spectrum and the temperature will be derived from a curve fitting of black body radiation.
